The community of engineers and scientists in Kazakhstan has announced the establishment of the IEEE Kazakhstan Section – a regional branch of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world’s largest professional organization in engineering and high technology. The launch of the national section marks an important step in strengthening the scientific and technological potential of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Central Asian countries.
Astana IT University and the International University of Information Technologies played a significant role in this process, serving as key hubs for IEEE development in Kazakhstan, with support from the IEEE Ukraine Section. The chairperson of the new section is PhD, Professor Edilkhan Didar from Astana IT University.
“The establishment of the IEEE Kazakhstan Section provides Kazakh engineers and researchers with direct access to IEEE’s global expertise, international professional communities, and advanced technological practices. Our goal is to create a sustainable platform for developing engineering talent, fostering scientific collaboration, and driving innovation, with Astana IT University acting as one of the main drivers of this ecosystem,” said Edilkhan Didar, Chairperson of the IEEE Kazakhstan Section and Professor at Astana IT University.
The new section will unite specialists in key areas, including:
- Electrical engineering and electronics
- Information technology and computer science
- Artificial intelligence and data analytics
- Telecommunications and cybersecurity
- Robotics and related engineering disciplines
IEEE Kazakhstan Section will support the development of the professional community, promote scientific research, organize international conferences, seminars, and educational programs, and integrate Kazakh scientists into global IEEE initiatives.
A special focus of the section is the IEEE International Conference on Smart Information Systems and Technologies (IEEE SIST), held annually at Astana IT University and the only IEEE-level conference of this scale in Kazakhstan.
Andrey Beloshitsky, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation at Astana IT University, noted:
“For over five years, our university has been organizing the IEEE SIST conference, providing a platform where researchers, innovators, and industry specialists discuss applied solutions in AI, intelligent systems, big data processing, and digital services. The conference features research presentations, technical sessions, workshops, and meetings with industry partners. With the establishment of the IEEE Kazakhstan Section, participants will gain even broader opportunities for professional networking, collaborative research, and engagement in international IEEE working groups.”
IEEE unites over 500,000 members across more than 190 countries worldwide. The official launch of a section in Kazakhstan highlights the country’s growing role in the global scientific and technological ecosystem and reinforces Astana IT University’s status as a leading center for engineering and digital innovation in the region.
