An acting Rector has been appointed at Astana IT University – Altair Amangeldievich Akhmetov.
Altair Amangeldievich holds a PhD in Law, graduated from the Kazakh State Law Academy, and earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Birmingham (UK).
He has extensive experience in the fields of public administration and education. Over the years, he has held senior positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Ministry of Education and Science, as well as serving as the Head of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
His most recent position was Director of the AITU GOLD School of Digital Public Administration.
His professional work has always been linked to the development of science, education, and digital technologies, which aligns with the strategic mission of Astana IT University.
We wish Altair Amangeldievich success in tackling new challenges and are confident that under his leadership the university will continue to strengthen its position as a leading center of digital education in Kazakhstan.
We would also like to note that Askar Kusupbekovich Khikmetov will continue his work in a new role – Advisor to the Rector on Artificial Intelligence. This appointment directly supports the tasks outlined by the President of Kazakhstan in the 2025 Address, where the development of AI was identified as one of the key strategic priorities.
