Astana IT University team took first place at the International Student Competition «One Belt, One Road», which took place in Xi’an, China, from October 26 to November 2, 2024

This competition aimed to promote entrepreneurship, as well as scientific, technological, and industrial innovations.

Team members Nurlan Abzalbekov, a graduate student, and Nurayim Kuandykov, a college student, showcased their project titled «EnergyDrones AI», a web platform designed for the inspection of solar panels. This innovative project allows for efficient detection of defects on solar panels using drones and artificial intelligence. It enhances existing monitoring technologies by processing images captured by drones through an AI and computer vision (CV)-based platform, achieving a defect detection accuracy of up to 95%. The project incorporates advanced neural networks, including KAN, CNN, and ResNet-8.

The project is supervised by Zarina Kutpanova, a senior lecturer at Astana IT University and a research associate at the Smart City Innovation Center.

The competition featured a total of 6,000 projects, with 579 finalists from 14 countries, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iran, the UAE, Japan, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, India, Russia, and China. Additionally, the event included an exhibition of technological achievements and various presentations.
