Military registration specialties (MRS)

1) Military Journalism – students learn to create video content, write scripts, conduct interviews, and edit in military settings.

2) Cybersecurity – training specialists in information system protection (a traditional specialty for IT universities in Kazakhstan).

3) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Operators – training in the control and use of drones.

Selection conditions and process

  • Submission of documents: From February 1, 2026, applications will be submitted online through eGov.kz.
  • Requirements: Students under 24 years of age, medically fit.

Selection stages:

  • Medical examination at the Yesil Regional Military Commission (Astana, 16 Imanbaev Street).
  • Professional and psychological testing.
  • Physical fitness tests: running (100 m and 3000 m) and pull-ups.
  • Competitive selection based on GPA (grade point average).

Admission is conducted on a competitive basis within the established enrollment quota. The Military Department of Astana IT University (AITU) provides training for reserve officers and reserve sergeants.

Competition for student selection

Stage 1

Check Your Eligibility

are a bachelor’s degree student
are not older than 24 years in the year of the competition
are studying in a year of study eligible for application
are medically fit
are ready to pass physical fitness standards
Deadline: Applications must be submitted no later than 10 working days before the start of the commission’s work.

Stage 2

Submit an application to the Military Department

Need to:

• fill out the application form
• prepare the required documents

Identity card (original and copy).
Four (4) photographs sized 3×4 cm.
Certificate of criminal record presence or absence in accordance with the form approved by the Order of the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated July 27, 2015 No. 95 “On approval of public service standards” (registered in the Register of State Registration of Regulatory Legal Acts under No. 12055).
Certificate confirming actual enrollment at a higher education institution, indicating the faculty and specialty (certificate issued upon request at the place of study).
A cardboard file folder (fastener folder) and two transparent file sleeves for the preparation of a personal file.

Document submission hours: Tuesday–Friday from 9:00 to 16:30, Saturday from 9:00 to 16:00.

Stage 3

Passing a medical examination in accordance with the Rules for conducting a military-medical examination.

Taking tests

Bring your ID card and outpatient card.
When passing all the tests mentioned above, the student submits a medical examination card issued by the military department.

Passing the medical commission

The medical commission will be organized at the assembly point of the DDO at the address: 13 Zataevich Str.( behind the building of the Zhastar Theater)
Candidates submit to medical commissions the results of medical research conducted no earlier than thirty calendar days before the start of the medical examination.
Students who have passed a medical examination, submit to the military department a medical card with the conclusion of the military medical commission.
According to the results of the military medical commission, one of the following conclusions is made: 1) "fit for military training"; 2) "unfit for military training".
Students who are recognized as "unfit" for health reasons or who have not submitted a medical examination card to the military department are considered not to have passed the first stage of the competition.
Students who are sent for additional medical examination submit to the military department a medical examination card to the military department after passing a medical examination.

Stage 4

Conducting professional psychological testing

Professional psychological testing of students is carried out by the selection committee in the computer classes of the university and includes checking the level of motivation, stress resistance, critical and logical thinking.
Students who are not recommended according to the results of professional psychological testing are considered not to have passed the second stage of the competition. The results of professional psychological selection and physical fitness are taken into account in the statement, which is signed by the members of the commission.

Stage 5

Physical fitness check

The physical fitness of students is assessed by the results of passing the standards for physical culture, according to Appendix 3. Students who have not scored 9 points on the sum of passing three standards are considered not to have passed the stage of the competition.
The data of the results of the professional psychological selection and physical fitness check are entered in the statements, which are signed by the members of the commission.
Form of clothing - sports (with replaceable sports shoes)
A pass for physical fitness testing is strictly based on identity cards.

Stage 6

Competitive selection carried out in accordance with the calculation of the rating score.

Material and technical base of the military department

To organize and conduct military training, the military department is provided with the necessary facilities and infrastructure, taking into account the specifics of training in military accounting specialties, including:
a separate classroom fund with the ability to organize and maintain internal order in accordance with the requirements of the General Military Regulations, compliant with construction codes and regulations, fire and security safety standards, and with the technical capability to install communication lines, as well as suitable for the installation of models of weapons, military and other equipment required for training;
a specialized library with a library collection and reading rooms equipped with computers with internet access;
a weapons storage room;
a drill ground not shared with other facilities;
special training complexes, shooting ranges, an electronic shooting range, multimedia equipment, a drill ground, and other facilities intended for the implementation of general military and specialized training programs in accordance with military accounting specialties;
training workshops, warehouses for storing military equipment, weapons, instruments, military-educational and other property;
maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities of the military department;
the required number of academic hours for military training and training camps (professional practice);
special literature (military-educational, thematic), and modern digital training programs for military disciplines (tactical, firearms, technical training).

The main functions of the department

Provides comprehensive methodological support for the educational disciplines of the department: the preparation of textbooks, teaching aids, the development of teaching materials for all types of training, as well as other manuals involving the use of the most appropriate forms and methods of teaching, a rational combination of teaching methods, the effective use of modern teaching machinery and laboratory equipment;
Provides training and advanced training for teaching staff;
Organizes the selection of students for military training;
Establishes creative ties with the military departments of other universities; studies, summarizes and disseminates the experience of the best teachers; assists beginning teachers in mastering pedagogical skills;
Takes an active part in the work of the university staff, improving the education of specialists on the basis of an integrated approach to labor and moral education of students. Provides the focus of the educational process on the formation of a scientific worldview among students;
Carries out work to expand and strengthen ties with other educational institutions;
Provides the development and use of modern educational technologies that enhance the learning of learning material by students;
Conducts the promotion of scientific knowledge through the participation of the faculty and staff of the department in the work of scientific and technical societies, seminars, speeches in front of teams at enterprises and in other educational institutions;
The head of the military department bears full responsibility for the educational, methodical, research and educational activities of the department headed by him.
Conducts scientific research on the most important theoretical, applied, and socio-economic issues within the department’s profile, as well as on the problems of military pedagogy in higher education, closely linked to the tasks of improving the quality of specialist training.
