Cybersecurity, Technology, and New Opportunities at Astana IT University

On April 24–25, Astana IT University held a large-scale cybersecurity workshop in the capital at Atameken Space, bringing together representatives of education, government agencies, and leading companies in the industry. The event became an important platform for exchanging experience, discussing current challenges in digital security, and strengthening cooperation between the university and the professional community.

Experts and representatives of Kaspersky, Palo Alto Networks with the participation of MUK Group, iBatyr, 7 Hills of Kazakhstan, tLab Anti-APT, RTEAM, and the Research and Innovation Center “CyberTech” took part in the program. Representatives of the Information Security Committee of the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and the Military Department also joined the workshop.

Over two days, participants discussed modern cyber threats, Kazakhstan’s cyber resilience, SOC solutions, cyber defense platforms, data leak prevention, detection engineering, digital forensics, and the training of specialists in information security. The expert presentations attracted great interest from both students and faculty, who noted the high level of organization and the practical value of the presented cases.

Interactive activities added a special atmosphere to the event: various games, lotteries, and prize draws were held between the presentations. Participants received branded merchandise from the speaker companies, making the program even more engaging and memorable.

On the second day, the results of the CTF competitions were summarized, career-oriented and practical sessions were held, and an award ceremony took place. For many students, the workshop became not only an educational platform but also an opportunity to make themselves known: the most active participants received internship invitations from specialized companies during networking.

The workshop once again confirmed young people’s strong interest in cybersecurity and the importance of such initiatives for developing the country’s human capital.

As part of the Cybersecurity Workshop, another bright event took place — the Hackathon. Participants demonstrated a high level of preparation, teamwork, and the ability to solve practical tasks in information security. Based on the results of the competition, the winners were announced.

First place was taken by the CyberX team, consisting of Danil Evgenyevich Li, Zhanseit Zhanabil, Yerkezhan Issatai, and Abu Yerboluly Konysbek. The winners received valuable prizes — four sets of Huawei FreeBuds 7i.

Second place was taken by the Freax team, represented by Baubek Serikbay and Maussymzhan Makazhan. For their strong performance, the participants received a Redmi 20000 mAh power bank, an AITU branded thermos, and two CTF T-shirts.

Third place was awarded to the Digital Team, represented by Yerassyl Galym and Yersultan Nurgaliyev. As a prize, the participants received two AITU branded bomber jackets.

The hackathon became an excellent opportunity for students to demonstrate their abilities, apply their knowledge in practice, and gain not only valuable experience but also well-deserved prizes.
