Astana IT University strengthens international cooperation with Sunway University
Astana IT University held a meeting with representatives of Sunway University, one of Malaysia’s leading private universities, renowned for its high-quality education, active international collaboration, and commitment to sustainable development.
As part of the visit, Astana IT University welcomed Prof. Sibrandes Poppema, President and Vice-Chancellor of Sunway University, as well as Mr. Marcel Bandur, Director of Internationalisation, Global Engagement and Mobility.
Sunway University is part of the Sunway Education Group, operated by the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, and is ranked 410th in the QS World University Rankings 2026. The university has also been recognized as one of the fastest-rising institutions in the QS rankings, climbing more than 120 positions compared to the previous year due to its achievements in research, internationalization, and graduate employability.
During the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities to expand academic cooperation and develop joint educational initiatives. Astana IT University is currently considering the launch of a dual degree program in Digital Journalism and Digital Media Technologies in collaboration with Sunway University.
The implementation of such initiatives will provide students with valuable international academic experience, broaden their educational and professional opportunities, and further strengthen cooperation between Kazakhstan and Malaysia in the field of higher education.
