On 25 September 2026, Astana IT University hosted a training session under the strategic AI Governance 500 programme. The programme brought together 90 political civil servants.
The participants included heads of government bodies, vice ministers, committee chairs, deputy chairs of agencies, deputy akims, representatives of maslikhats, and other officials involved in managerial decision-making.

Rector of Astana IT University Altair Akhmetov presented the University’s capabilities and outlined its role in developing a modern technology and research ecosystem. Particular attention was given to the development of software solutions for the public sector, the implementation of research projects, and support for technology start-ups.

The programme’s research and practical component was presented by the heads of Astana IT University’s research centres.

Beibit Abdikenov, Director of the Artificial Intelligence Research Centre, delivered a presentation entitled “How AI Works: Fundamental Principles and Research Projects — From Research to Applied Solutions.” He explained the fundamental principles of artificial intelligence and the approaches that enable scientific research to be transformed into technologies and solutions for practical application.

Didar Yedilkhan, Director of the Smart City Research and Innovation Centre at Astana IT University and Chair of the IEEE Kazakhstan Section, conducted a session entitled “From Big Data to Smart Solutions: Big Data and Business Analytics in Action.” The presentation focused on the potential of big data and analytical tools for addressing current practical challenges.

Astana IT University’s participation in a programme of this level provides an opportunity to present the University’s scientific and technological expertise directly to leaders who make strategic decisions. This strengthens AITU’s position as a technological, scientific, and expert partner in Kazakhstan’s digital transformation.
