Organizer - "Astana IT University"

Republican competition of scientific IT projects among graduate students
schools and college graduates of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Nazarbayev Intellectual
schools, Republican Physics and Mathematics School, lyceums and schools “BilimInnovation”, ZERDE school”, Quantum STEM School, IT lyceums and schools, other schools and
colleges) is conducted to award an educational grant for studying at LLP
Astana IT University.

The number of educational grants is determined by the order of the AITU Rector.
Educational grant and enrollment in AITU students are provided upon
confirmation of passing the Unified National Testing with the result not
below 65 points and at least 5 points in each of the subjects. For applicants 2022
year the UNT certificate should be 2022.

Purpose of the competition

Identification and development of students’ creative abilities and interest in knowledge in the field of information technology.

Tasks

– increased interest in research activities and studies;
– identifying and supporting the most talented and gifted young researchers;
– assistance in the formation of the intellectual potential of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The competition is held on a free topic “Smart City Technologies” (for example,
city information system, city digital platform, healthcare,
energy, waste management, transport and mobility, urban safety,
ecology, etc.)

Competition period

December 2021 – May 2022

Stage 1 – online, correspondance

Announcement of the Competition for the purpose
informing and involving graduate students (grades 10-12)
schools and college graduates of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Informing schools 01 – 15
December 2021 Acceptance of competitive materials begins on January 10, 2022
the institution sends applications for participation in the competition until February 15, 2022 (inclusive)
(Appendix 1) to the address: science@astanait.edu.kz indicating the subject of the letter “Application for
competition of scientific IT-projects_school”.

Registration of applications and projects in Astana IT University LLP

Acceptance of competitive materials takes place on January 10 – February 15, 2022 (inclusive).
Applications received for the competition after the deadline and executed in violation of
requirements are not accepted. The competition provides:
– the application of the participant, which must be named “Application_ (you must specify
last name of the participant_school)”, for example, “Application_Khasenov_RFMS”, etc.;
– description of the project with a 3-minute video.
To participate in the competition, innovative projects are accepted using
scientific approaches, for example: “Smart technologies in the hotel business”, “Creation
tracking devices for people with disabilities, pets and
other technology.”
Works that do not meet the conditions of the competition or submitted in violation
requirements may not be accepted.
The expert commission selects projects, checks them for plagiarism and expertise
to participate in the next stage of the Contest (until February 20, 2022). According to the results of the selection the list of participants/teams that have passed to the 2nd stage at the official
AITU website.

Stage 2 - offline

Holding the final of the competition in the form of project defense (April
– May 2022), the purpose of which is to present the projects of the winners of the 1st stage for
expert commission. Project protection time – 7 minutes.
The format of the presentation is free. Electronic version of the presentation
MS Power Point format, no more than 5 slides.

How many stages are there in the competition and what is the format of the competition?

The Competition period is December 2021 – May 2022. The Competition consists of the following
stages:
Stage 1 – online, correspondence. Acceptance of competitive materials begins on January 10, 2022. The educational institution sends applications for participation in the competition until February 15, 2022 (inclusive) (Appendix 1) to the address: science@astanait.edu.kz indicating the subject of the letter “Application for the competition of scientific IT -projects_school”.
Stage 2 – offline. Holding the final of the competition in the form of project defense (April
– May 2022).

Who can apply to participate in the competition?

Only an individual can be a participant in the competition. The competition may accept
participation graduate students (grades 10-12) and college graduates
Republic of Kazakhstan. A team (consisting of 2 people) or
individual form of participation in the competition. From one participant / team of participants
Only one entry will be accepted for the competition.

On what topic are projects accepted for the competition?

The competition is held on a free topic “Smart City Technologies” (for example,

using scientific approaches, for example: “Smart technologies in the hotel
business”, “Creating a tracking device for people with disabilities,

What are the requirements for projects?

The project must meet the objectives of the competition and be creative and
research character. The problem being solved must be relevant. The project must
be focused on a specific result and implementation timeline and contain analysis, conclusions and
proposals on the problem under consideration, have practical significance. Project
should contain visual materials (diagrams, tables, diagrams, etc.).
Projects of the abstract type will not be accepted, will be checked for
plagiarism.

How should the project be framed?

Project work structure:
Title page (title, authors, supervisors, place and date
execution).
Formulation of the problem.
Description of technology/development as a solution to a problem.
Examples of the application of technology / development in the cities of Kazakhstan, the world.
Recommendations for use in Nur-Sultan.
List of sources used
The text of no more than 5 pages and the participant’s application must be typed in
text editor MS WORD.

How will projects be selected and evaluated?

The selection of works for participation in the competition and their evaluation is carried out by an expert commission.
Entries must be submitted to the competition if they meet the requirements
established by the Tender Documentation.
At the first stage, the Expert Commission selects projects, checks them for plagiarism
and expertise for participation in the next stage of the Competition (until February 20, 2022). By
the results of the selection will be published a list of participants / teams that have passed to the 2nd stage
on the AITU official website.
At the second stage (April – May 2022), participants / teams that have passed to the 2nd stage,
will protect the projects. Project protection time – 7 minutes. Registration form
presentations are free. The electronic version of the presentation in MS Power Point format is not
more than 5 slides.

How to submit a project?

– text no more than 5 pages and the participant’s application must be typed in
text editor MS WORD;
– Tables, diagrams, figures must have a name and be typed in the WINDOWS environment;
– Fields: top – 2, bottom – 2 cm, right – 1.5 cm, left – 3 cm.
– Font: Times New Roman, KZ Times New Roman, size -12.
– The interval is single.
– Paragraph indent (“red line”) – 1.25 cm;
– On the next line – in the center the name of the project in CAPITAL LETTERS
(in bold);
– Under the name – in the center in lowercase letters (bold) the initials of the name,
patronymic and surname of the author;
– Below full name supervisor, academic degree, position;
– Below: full name of the institution where the work was done (in bold)
(educational institution where the speaker is studying);
-One interval (blank line) after paragraph indentation – directly
project material;
– The list of references is placed at the end of the text and compiled in accordance with
the order in which works are mentioned;
– Reports can be issued in Kazakh, Russian, English.
Handwritten materials are not considered.
Competitive materials are submitted to the competition by e-mail to the address
organizing committee.

When will the results of the competition be announced? Where can you find out?

The results of the competition will be summed up in May 2022. Information about the results
competitive selection is announced at the AITU Academic Council (competition results
approved by the order of the rector indicating the full name of the holders of the educational grant for
training at AITU) is published on the official AITU website. Winners will be notified
by email.

In what language are applications and projects accepted?

Reports can be issued in Kazakh, Russian, English. handwritten
materials are not considered.

Who will evaluate projects?

Projects will be evaluated by the Expert Commission, which consists of 5-10
person as agreed (chairman and members of the expert commission). Quantity
expert commissions – 5. The composition of the expert commission for the competition
includes experts from among the teaching staff (hereinafter referred to as teaching staff),
students and undergraduates of AITU. The composition of the Expert Commission is determined by order
Rector of the University.
Members of the Expert Commission should not be affiliated with the participants of the Contest. V
if the facts of affiliation of members of the Expert Commission with
participants of the Competition, these members must be suspended from work in the
Expert Commission

By what criteria will projects be evaluated?

The design works of the contest participants are evaluated by 1 point for an indicator of five
components of competence (in the absence of a score is not set):
– creative ability (originality and creativity in the design of work,
use of new approaches, understanding the relevance of the topic and practical significance
works, expression of one’s own position, its justification);
– scientific thinking (the ability to identify a problem and justify its relevance,
the ability to formulate a goal, objectives, the ability to compare, compare, generalize and do
conclusions, the ability to identify causal relationships, to give arguments and
illustrate with examples, the ability to correlate the result with the set
purpose);
– the use of ICT (the ability to effectively organize information and
temporary space, the validity of the software products used);
– the effectiveness of the research methods used (knowledge of the basic terms
and factual material on the topic of the project, knowledge of existing points of view (approaches)
to the problem and ways to solve it, knowledge of sources of information);
– oratory skills, quality of demonstration material, clarity (ownership of
competent, emotional and free speech, expression of one’s own position, its
justification);
– the level of coordination of team members (only for team work).
